Jonny Johansson's Acne Studios held its Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's show on March 4th at the multi-purpose Pavillon Cambon. Drawing inspiration from the work of 20th-century painter Paul Klee, the show subtly incorporated the DIY spirit that Acne Studios has always embodied. Dresses inspired by Klee's abstract paintings featured raw-edged pieces, lending an artistic feel. The loose patchwork stitching and asymmetrical appliqués on the pieces evoked a sense of awkwardness. While the knitwear, seemingly deliberately knitted without a set shape, and the skirts, seemingly haphazardly sewn together, left a mysterious impression, the exceptional cutting that underpinned the collection tightened the overall look, creating a modern and beautiful aesthetic. The collection was based on the DIY spirit of altering an item yourself to wear it for a long time and showcasing your own style, and from there, there was also a sense of vintage clothing.
Another notable feature was the suggestion of a style where the jacket was worn backwards, born from the idea of wearing the same item without getting bored. The collection depicted a new image of the woman that is characteristic of Acne Studios, with a strong coexistence of rough and delicate elements.
