On February 23rd, ATSUSHI NAKASHIMA presented his 2017-18 Fall/Winter collection in Milan, Italy. He was the first Japanese designer to receive the DHL Exported project, and last season he participated in the Milan Collection for the first time. This season, the show was sponsored by Onward Kashiyama Co., Ltd., a company he has had a connection with since winning the Grand Prix at the 2003 Fashion Grand Prix. The venue, the Royal Palace Museum, was chosen, just like last season. The theme was "DISSOLVE." While continuing to explore new designs born from the deconstruction, recombination, and reconstruction of different items, this season's focus was on the "change in impression" that occurs when transitioning from one setting to the next. The key element of the look was the streetwear staple, the MA-1 jacket. This brand-new MA-1 jacket, borrowing elements from the obi and hi-collar of a kimono, blends the lapels of a wool coat with a scarf. The asymmetrical cut and patchwork techniques, like intarsia, are meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail. The deconstruction and reconstruction technique, featuring a wide variety of ideas, highlighted trench coats and blousons, tailored jackets and blousons, and shirts and shirts. While the designs were innovative, they felt somehow familiar, perhaps due to the afterimages of familiar originals. Strong street elements were also present, such as logo-printed high-neck tops, vivid color palettes, and cut-off details with loose threads. A fur coat featuring polka dots and checks appeared toward the end of the show, leaving a lingering sense of luxury. While appearing to be real fur, it was actually a fur-like pile material with anti-shedding properties. Shoes designed using 3D technology were presented as practical pieces, undergoing structural analysis to ensure sufficient strength, and continue to evolve with each passing season. Tsuyoshi Domoto's music, inspired by the interconnectedness of cells, further enhanced the pop and powerful show. Nakajima's refined creativity and meticulous attention to detail made each look exciting, resulting in a highly entertaining collection.
