To celebrate the birthday of the Air Max, a shoe that has influenced various cultures, Nike is hosting the "VOTE FORWARD" project, inviting 12 creators from around the world who are creating bold works to create the Air Max of the future.

In this project, the 12 creators, whom Nike calls "RevolutionAIRs," will collaborate with the Nike design team to design future Air Maxes, which will be unveiled on the Nike official website on March 18th. The winning shoe will be released in 2018 after a voting period from March 18th to 25th.

Representing Japan, Naotaka Konno, designer and director of MAGIC STICK/REVISED, participated. Drawing inspiration from the worldview of sci-fi films depicting a near-future Tokyo and the city's modern nightlife, the design is based on the Nike Air Max 97. Inspired by the black lights and flashlights of nightclubs, the shoe utilizes reflective material and VIP band materials, pursuing a comfortable fit. The shoe has evolved by incorporating a bootie style similar to the Air Huarache into the lining.

Other international lineups include British fashion designer Alexandra Hackett's design, which combines elements of the Air Max 1, 90, 180, 93, 95, 97, Plus, 360, and 2015, and Russian designer Artemy Lebedev's updated version of the popular Air Max 97 silhouette with a black reflective upper and a zippered shroud that covers the laces.

Turkish creative designer Bunyamin Aydin (Instabul) reflects Eastern culture in a design that combines traditional textiles with digital printing. From Los Angeles, graphic designer KYLE NG infused a raw Air Max 1 Ultra Flyknit design with neutral tones and a hand-painted, DIY look, accented by a "Give a Damn" heel logo. In France, Amsterdam-based CLEMENT BALAVOINE seamlessly integrated an upper borrowed from the Air Max 90 with a tongue and tooling inspired by the Air Max 97. A secret number is printed on the airbag. From Mexico, artist LOURDES VILLAGOMEZ created a hybrid Air Max 1 and Air Max 90 model, featuring hidden details inspired by the quetzal, a bird that lives in the Central American forests. From Korea, design and craftsman FABRIKR, along with a sneaker collector who wraps his shoes in plastic wrap, created a design inspired by the fog he experienced during a visit to Nike HQ in Portland. The classic red and white Air Max 1 upper is completely enveloped in a transparent material for protection.

In Los Angeles, shop owner SEAN WOTHERSPOON created a hybrid design between the Air Max 97 and Air Max 1, inspired by vintage '80s Nike caps.

From Shanghai, China, SHANGGUAN ZHE featured a pattern on the front inspired by dragonfly wings, one of the lightest creatures in nature. Also from Beijing, China, graphic artist and fashion designer CHEN TIANZHUO incorporated design elements inspired by ski boots, insects, armor, and even the Kobe 9 Elite.

In New York, DJ VENUS X incorporated a bold message from the toe to the leg into the upper of his Air Max 97, in addition to tones inspired by the classic Air Max Plus colorway.

In addition, the public can vote (NKE.COM/VOTEFORWARD), and the winning design will be announced on March 26th, Air Max's birthday.
