CHANEL NEXUS HALL is releasing digital catalogs of past exhibitions held at the gallery from November 12th to April 29th, 2021.

Since its opening in 2005, CHANEL NEXUS HALL has hosted a variety of art exhibitions, with a focus on photography.

Each exhibition has produced a catalog (not for sale) which was made available for viewing at the venue. This time, for a limited time only, a series of digital catalogs of six past exhibitions will be released.

In addition to photographs of the works, this digital catalog also features every page with contributions from the artists and curators, making it enjoyable for both those who have seen the exhibition and those who have not.

The first in the series is the catalog for Pierre-Élie Depibrac's "In Situ" exhibition, which captured dancers from the Paris Opera House and was held at KYOTOGRAPHIE, the Kyoto International Photography Festival, following its exhibition at Chanel Nexus Hall this year. It will be available from today until December 10th.

The digital catalog will be released in a series of six installments, with each catalog being released for a limited time, one month at a time. Release details are as follows:

Ballet dancers captivate audiences with their splendid performances on the world's greatest stage, the Paris Opera. Pierre-Élysé de Pibrac's "In Situ" trilogy captures this almost mythical beauty in every detail. Pibrac's works, which he created by placing himself backstage at the Palais Garnier and the Opéra Bastille, where the Paris Opera Ballet performs, and immersing himself in the lives of the dancers, exude a unique beauty that is no less than that of the Opera House and its dancers.

The Italian photographers, husband and wife Baldizzone, encountered over 100 mentors and students across over 40 disciplines during their travels from Europe to Asia and Africa. The film delves deeply into these relationships, capturing the emotions that emerge as knowledge is passed on, the excitement of creation, the personal relationships, and the bonds that form through these exchanges.The film offers viewers a wide range of perspectives and offers an opportunity to reflect on topics such as tradition and innovation, intergenerational exchange, cultural diversity, and the preservation of heritage.


Vol. 3 "DEPARDON / TOKYO 1964-2016" Raymond Depardon Exhibition

"DEPARDON / TOKYO 1964-2016" Raymond Depardon Exhibition
Opening Period: January 8 - February 4, 2021

Raymond Depardon is a French photographer known for his reportage and humanistic work, capturing everything from civil wars in Africa to the expressions of people around the world. His first visit to Japan was in 1964, to cover the recent Tokyo Olympics. Depardon was just 22 years old at the time and still considered a novice, but his monochrome photographs fully demonstrate his keen observational eye and excellent compositional skills. In 2016, Depardon once again photographed the city of Tokyo in color for this exhibition. The catalogue includes Depardon's previous photographs of Tokyo as well as new color works.

"INBOX HYBRIDIZATION (IN LOVE)" Enki Bilal Exhibition
Exhibition Period: February 5 - March 4, 2021

Enki Bilal is a leading visual creator in the French-speaking world of comic bandes dessinées. Since the mid-1970s, he has produced science fiction works with striking visual expression, which have had a major impact not only on comic artists around the world but also on the film industry. In recent years, he has also been focusing on painting, exhibiting his works, and at the 2015 Venice Biennale he created the installation "INBOX," which questioned the viewer's five senses and perception of reality, which garnered considerable attention. The exhibition catalogue includes paintings created specifically for this exhibition, his first solo exhibition in Japan, as well as an interview with the artist.

Photographers Carlos Ayesta and Guillaume Bresson, born in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, and the resulting "no man's land" caused by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, He made numerous visits to areas that had become "no man's land" to take photographs. In an attempt to realistically convey the seemingly endless situation, he used his own unique methods of expression, resulting in a series of works that combine documentary and art. In 2017, he won the Discovery Award at the Arles International Photography Festival. Now that 10 years have passed since the earthquake, the works evoke a variety of thoughts in the viewer. The catalogue also includes an interview with the artist about the behind-the-scenes stories of the shoot.

Sala Moon, a leading French female photographer and highly acclaimed filmmaker, has been active at the forefront of the world for over 30 years, creating fantastical and profound images. The catalog features a selection of works by Sala Moon that will be shown in Japan for the first time, as well as an interview. As the title suggests, the "passage of time" is an important theme, and it is one of the main interests that Moon has pursued throughout her career as an artist. Her unique world of work, which depicts elegantly-posed models and fashion, animals such as birds and elephants, and a variety of natural and man-made landscapes, suggests the transience of time and evokes memories and nostalgia in the viewer's hearts.
