DOMINIQUE ANSEL BAKERY, a new generation bakery from New York, will open its second Japanese store on the second basement floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi on March 29th as the world's first takeout specialty store.
The store's inspiration comes from traditional Japanese culture. Dominique Ansel's unique and rich imagination has resulted in a lineup of items with motifs that evoke nostalgic memories, such as windmills, kabuki, rice balls, and daruma dolls.
As a product that allows you to enjoy Japanese culture as food, the Ginza store-exclusive "Mr. Kabuki" (360 yen), a hybrid bread made from melon bread and cream bread, is a part of the "Mr. Roboto" series. Its unique appeal lies in the fact that it allows you to enjoy melon bread, cream bread, and bean paste bread all in one. Other items on offer include the windmill-themed "Orange Hazelnut Pinwheel" (330 yen), Dominique's style "Mentaiko Focaccia" rice balls filled with plenty of mentaiko (450 yen), and "Daruma" (700 yen), a sweet version of the daruma doll, a treasured lucky charm for those who struggle to rise above the odds.
Also available as souvenir sweets are the "Apple Marshmallow" (900 yen each, 7,800 yen in a box with an original furoshiki wrapping cloth), made with caramel wrapped in marshmallow and coated in white chocolate, and the "Taiyaki Pound Cake" (500 yen each, 6,200 yen in a box with an original furoshiki wrapping cloth), which has a moist and fluffy texture. Other items include the "Hot Dog" (500 yen) with a cute dog sausage inside, the "Buckwheat Croissant" (340 yen), in which the aroma of buckwheat flour and dashi fills your mouth the moment you bite into it, and two varieties of babka, a Jewish sweet bread that is popular in New York: "Chocolate Babka" and "Matcha Babka" (900 yen each). Additionally, the Ginza store will be introducing the "Brown Sugar DKA" (570 yen), an original dessert based on kouign amann, a traditional Brittany pastry. Owner and chef Dominique Ansel will also be visiting Japan on March 29th, the opening day.
