On April 21st, PETIT BATEAU will release a capsule collection by Wataru Tominaga, winner of the Grand Prix in the fashion category at the 31st Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography, at Petit Bateau boutiques nationwide and online.
The festival, held annually in April in the southern French resort town of Hyères, is known as a springboard for young fashion designers and photographers, and past winners include Viktor & Rolf and Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello. Petit Bateau has partnered with the festival since 2013, releasing collaborative items with Grand Prix winners.
This capsule collection features four women's items and two unisex items, showcasing Tominaga's signature vibrant colors. "Boldly combining simple elements creates rhythmic and beautiful melodic designs," says Tominaga. Iconic Petit Bateau pieces, such as marinières, T-shirts, and petite culottes, which were created nearly 100 years ago, have been reinterpreted and reborn as fresh designs. The jersey long dress (¥20,000) features layered stripes in different tones for a dynamic look. The boat-neck top (¥14,500) features all-over blue flowers intertwined with red borders for a graphic look. The unisex T-shirt (¥8,300) and shorts (¥5,800) combine blue and green stripes with a checkerboard pattern to create a harmonious unisex style. Wataru Tominaga studied textile design at Musashino Art University and Aalto University in Helsinki before graduating from Central Saint Martins in London. Julien Dossena, who served as the head of the jury for this year's festival, described Tominaga as "like a young Issey Miyake."
