TARO HORIUCHI, the brand created by designer Taro Horiuchi, will hold pop-up events at Isetan Shinjuku from November 20th to December 3rd, Matsuya Ginza from December 4th to 10th, and Nihonbashi Takashimaya from December 11th to 17th.
The brand will release its first pre-collection for the 2014 Spring/Summer season. The theme is Stephanie Quayle, an artist based in the Isle of Man, UK, and incorporates her life surrounded by nature, the background to her creations, and her daily life into her designs of adorable animal sculptures.
The event will primarily feature apparel, bags, sneakers, and miscellaneous goods from the collection. Event-exclusive items will also be available. In addition, sculptures and paintings, including Quayle's new works, will be exhibited and sold exclusively at Isetan Shinjuku.
Horiuchi enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 2003. While studying there, he won the Diesel Prize at the Italian fashion contest "ITS" and presented his capsule collection in 13 countries. After graduating at the top of his class in 2007, he moved to France and founded his own eponymous brand in 2008. In 2012, he won the Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award at the 30th Mainichi Fashion Awards.
Quale was born on a farm on the Isle of Man, located between the UK and Ireland, and earned a master's degree from the Royal College of Art in London in 2007. He is known in Japan for his giant elephant work placed at the entrance to Dover Street Market Ginza. In March of this year, he held his first solo exhibition in Japan at Nantenshi Gallery in Ginza.
