The "PIGGY'S SPECIAL Pigskin Fashion Show" was held on November 20th at Tokyo International Forum Hall D in Yurakucho, Tokyo, where et momonakia and Yasutoshi Ezumi presented works using pigskin produced in Tokyo.
The event was held as part of JFW JAPAN CREATION 2014, a comprehensive textile trade fair held at the Tokyo International Forum Exhibition Hall for two days on the 20th and 21st.
Emomonakia, with the theme "The flowers in full glory," introduced leather items that will be released at next year's 14AW exhibition, including dresses with a black foil print of gold dots, tops and coats adorned with lots of ribbons, and items with floral transfer prints and punched prints. Yasuto Shiezumi showcased jackets, dresses, bags, and shoes made with pigskin, including perforated and partially used pieces, leather bonding, and hand-knitted pigskin cords, which were also featured in their SS14 collection. Naoto Joga and Hiroto Tamaki commented, "We created this collection while respecting the natural look and texture of the leather, while also considering a balance that doesn't feel like leather. This was our first time using pigskin, but the quality was high, and we were able to create something that feels the same as wearing cloth." Yasutoshi Esumi commented, "We took advantage of pigskin's thin, firm, and matte texture and incorporated it into our Spring/Summer collection. We experimented with how to best use it for Spring/Summer, and I believe its uses will continue to expand." Pigskin, a by-product of meat production, is Japan's only self-sufficient leather material, with 70% of the country's production occurring in Tokyo.
