
Singer-songwriter Shiina Ringo was born on November 25, 1978, in Fukuoka Prefecture. She debuted in 1998 with the single "Kofukuron." Her first album, "Muzai Moratorium," sold 1.6 million copies, and her second, "Shoso Strip," sold over 2.5 million copies. She continued to release cover albums and other hits. In 2004, she formed the band "Tokyo Incidents" with music producer Seiji Kameda and others, and began a band career alongside her solo work. The band's second album, "Otona," reached number one on the charts. In 2007, she received the Japan Academy Award for Excellence in Music for her first role as music director for the film "Sakuran." In 2008, marking her 10th anniversary since her debut, she released a collection of non-album tracks, "Watashi to Hoden," and a DVD of single clips, "Watashi no Hatsuden," as well as a three-day concert at Saitama Super Arena to celebrate her 10-year career. She also performed a three-day concert to a total of 55,000 fans. The following year, she was awarded the 2008 Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's New Artist Award (Popular Entertainment Category) sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the previous year.
Tokyo Jihen disbanded on February 29, 2012. Since then, she has continued her solo career, working on a wide range of projects, including writing songs for SMAP and composing the music for Hideki Noda's stage plays. Most recently, she released her collaboration best album "Ukiname" on November 13th and her live best album "Mitsugetsu Sho." She performs some serious sword fighting in the music video for "Netsuai Hakkenchu," arranged by Yasutaka Nakata, which is included in "Ukiname." Her sexy, low-cut pose attracted a lot of attention. She also held a live concert to commemorate her 15th anniversary since her debut on November 18th.
At the time of her debut, she was a fan of Vivienne Westwood. She wore an armor ring and held the microphone.
