Prada has released "Castello Cavalcanti," an eight-minute short film in collaboration with film director Wesley Anderson. Filmed at Cinecittà, a film studio on the outskirts of Rome, and cinematographer Darius Khondji, the film is set in Italy in 1955. The story begins with a racer, played by comedic actor Jason Schwartzman, crashing his racing car into a statue of Christ in a small town left behind by modernization. When the racer asks, "Where is this?" the residents point to a brick building and answer, "Castello Cavalcanti." Feeling a sense of belonging and a sense of home in the town, the racer watches the few buses heading into the city leave, then relaxes and enjoys a meal of spaghetti. The film premiered out of competition at the Rome Film Festival on the 13th and is currently available on the Prada website.
Anderson is known for his modern classics, such as "The Royal Tenenbaums," "The Darjeeling Limited," and "Moonrise Kingdom."
The Prada Classics project continues to redefine the boundaries of adjacent fields such as art, architecture, and film, without being bound by convention. Last year, he collaborated with director Roman Polanski on the humorous short film "A Therapy," starring Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Kingsley.
