Grand Front Osaka, which opened in the spring of 2013, is celebrating its first Christmas. Starting with the illumination lighting ceremony at Umekita Square on November 29th, various Christmas events are planned throughout the period leading up to December 25th. The approximately 60 trees surrounding Umekita Square are adorned with "WISH SHINEE" eco-illuminations, which consume 65% less electricity per bulb than conventional ones. Additionally, the entire town is illuminated with approximately 300,000 light bulbs, including the innovative "WISH ART" tree at Umekita Square, the "Red Thread" interior decoration that connects the JR Osaka Station connecting deck to Knowledge Plaza, and the "WISH TREES" floating in the air at Knowledge Plaza. The lighting ceremony for "Snowman Lighting," the main attraction of the "Umeda Snowman Festival 2013," will be held on December 13th, featuring a lighting event that synchronizes light, sound, and video.
A Christmas market has already been running since the 22nd, where you can enjoy an authentic German Christmas atmosphere. A variety of other events are planned for the period, including fashion shows, live painting, a music festival, and a chance to try out the smart toy "Sphero."
Also, in reference to the Western legend that if you make a wish on the Y-shaped bone (wishbone) of the chicken or turkey eaten at Christmas, your dream will come true, a "wishbone" has been set up on the 5th floor of the South Building. Visitors can write their wishes on "WISH CARDS" distributed by each store and tie them together, and the first 500 people each day to tie a wish will receive a "WISH FLOWER" (one tulip).
