Fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh was born on November 23, 1944, in Duisburg, Germany. He spent his childhood in Duisburg, West Germany, where he gained experience working as a designer in a department store before studying painting at an art school. He turned to photography at the age of 27, worked as an assistant to photographer Hans Lux for two years, and went independent as an advertising photographer at the age of 29. He moved to Paris in 1978 and began shooting for the Italian edition of Vogue, as well as the British, French, German, and American editions. He photographed numerous top models, including Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford, sparking the "supermodel boom" of the 1990s. From 1982 to 1985, he assisted Japanese photographer ZIGEN. In 1992, he signed a contract with the women's magazine Harper's Bazaar. He also shot campaigns for Giorgio Armani, Prada, Donna Karan, and Calvin Klein, as well as portraits of celebrities such as Madonna, Mick Jagger, and Sharon Stone. He is particularly known for his black-and-white photography, which is influenced by the German Expressionist films of the 1920s. In addition to photography, he also shot television commercials and music videos. In 1991, he released the documentary film "Models: The Film." In 1999, he released the documentary film "Inner Voices," which explores the acting technique and won the Best Documentary Award at the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival.
