The "It's a Sony Exhibition" will be held at the Sony Building in Ginza, Tokyo, from November 12th to March 31st, 2017, as a countdown event leading up to the building's reconstruction.

This year, Sony celebrates its 70th anniversary and is embarking on the "Ginza Sony Park Project," a major renovation plan for the Sony Building, as a symbolic initiative for its challenge into a new era. From summer 2018 through 2020, the current Sony Building site will be widely open to the public as "Ginza Sony Park," with a new Sony Building to be constructed and open by 2022. Accordingly, the Sony Building will temporarily cease operations on March 31st, 2017, and construction for its reconstruction will begin. The "It's a Sony Exhibition," being held prior to the closure, will showcase the 50-year history of the Sony Building and its future evolution, along with past Sony products. The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first part, running from November 12 to February 12, 2017, will be themed around "history," showcasing archival products such as Japan's first Transistor radio, the TR-55, the original Walkman®, the TPS-L2, and the entertainment robot, AIBO, along with original advertisements. Additionally, a "My Favorite Sony" corner will be set up, showcasing Andy Warhol's "SONY-WALKMAN" prints and 10 prominent figures from various fields sharing their favorite Sony products and stories. The second part, running from February 17 to March 31, 2017, will be designed to allow visitors to experience the Ginza Sony Park concept firsthand. Installations based on a "park" motif by creators active both in Japan and overseas will be on display, along with live music performances by emerging artists. To commemorate the exhibition, limited-edition rubber straps (500 yen including tax) will be available for sale as capsule toys. A total of 21 types of straps will be available, including those featuring past products such as the original Walkman and those with a Sony Building motif, with five designs changing every month.
