Sumida Aquarium in Tokyo's Sumida Ward is once again hosting a "Jellyfish Collaboration Exhibition" with photographer and film director Mika Ninagawa, running until March 14, 2017. Following last year's collaboration, this year's collaboration will once again take place in the 50-meter-long "Jellyfish Kaleidoscope Tunnel," whose walls and ceiling are surrounded by approximately 5,000 mirrors. Ninagawa's video works are projected onto the eight jellyfish tanks and walls, allowing visitors to experience the sensation of floating through a fantastical world of mirrors alongside the jellyfish. This year, Ninagawa's video works and photographs will also be featured in the 6th floor Jellyfish Zone, which features a new large jellyfish tank measuring approximately 4 meters wide and 1.5 meters high, as well as a U-shaped tank displaying eight different types of jellyfish. Additionally, limited-edition special edition annual passes featuring Ninagawa's work and original postcards will be available for purchase during the exhibition.
A variety of other experience programs will also be held. Until January 9, 2017, there will be a "Jellyfish Projector" where you can make your own jellyfish using translucent material and play with it by projecting it onto the screen. From November 18 to December 16, there will be a "Fluffy Jellyfish" event for adults only, where you can carefully observe your own "mineral jellyfish" in a jar with a penlight. On December 26 and 27, there will also be a "Jellyfish Researcher" event where you can learn about the structure of a jellyfish's body and feed it. Also, during the event period until March 14, 2017, the cafe on the 5th floor will be selling "Fluffy Jellyfish Soda" (500 yen including tax, 550 yen including tax with alcohol).
