Photographer Diane Arbus was born on March 14, 1923, in New York, USA. She passed away on July 26, 1971. She met Alan Arbus at a sketching class she attended at the age of 14, and married him at the age of 18. With Alan in charge of photography and Diane as his assistant and stylist, they began working as fashion photographers. In addition to photographing advertisements for her father's department store, she also worked for Vogue and Glamour magazines. After the pair disbanded, she studied under photographer Lisette Model from 1955 to 1957. Diane's work often documents the "bizarre lifestyles and personalities" hidden among ordinary people, such as hermaphrodites, the disabled, transvestites, twins, dwarfs, and institutionalized people, as well as park dwellers, nudists, and masked ball attendees. These photographs gradually began to receive acclaim and were published in magazines such as Harper's Bazaar.

In 1969, she officially divorced her estranged husband. Afterwards, she suffered from a fear of loneliness, depression, and criticism and hostility directed at her work, and took her own life in 1971. Even after her death, her works were exhibited in art museums around the world, and her photo book "Diane Arbus Aperture," published in 1972, sold more than 250,000 copies.
