Armani launches short film project to nurture future filmmakers

Mar 13, 2014

Giorgio Armani has launched "Films of City Frames," a short film project aimed at supporting aspiring film directors. Armani has previously supported young Italian designers in hosting fashion shows to nurture the next generation of talent. This time, Armani is supporting film school students from New York University, the University of Southern California, Paris, London, Rome, and Hong Kong. Through this project, aspiring directors will create short films that portray urban landscapes and emotional scenes, using Armani eyewear as a filter. Armani's relationship with film is long-standing, beginning with the costume design for the 1980 film "American Gigolo," starring Richard Gere. More recently, Armani has also been involved in the costume design for "The Wolf of Wall Street," starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Films of City Frames was also realized from Armani's idea of "supporting young talent in the film industry and connecting Giorgio Armani with the world of film through the eyes of eyewear."

To kick off the project, a short film produced by Piero Messina, assistant to Academy Award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino, was released on a special website on March 17th. A teaser video is currently being shown. Short films made by the students will then be released one after another from the summer onwards.
