LUMINE 0, located on the fifth floor of the NEWoMan shopping complex in Shinjuku, Tokyo, will be hosting "Windowsill," a solo exhibition by New York-based Japanese artist Enrico Isamu Oyama, from June 29th to July 4th.
Oyama Enrico Isamu has attracted attention for his wide-ranging work, including collaborations with COMME des GARÇONS and Shu Uemura, and presents murals and paintings based on the motif "Quick Turn Structure," which is an adaptation of the visual language of graffiti culture. This time, he will be visiting Japan for a solo exhibition and presenting new works.
The title "Windowsill" refers to the space next to a window where potted plants and other ornamental plants are placed, also known as a windowsill. Renaissance architect Leon Battista Alberti once advocated the theory that painters "liken paintings to open windows," and the paintings on display at this exhibition incorporate the image of a windowsill. The exhibition will feature large, dynamic works with a layered composition, featuring dynamic lines in the background and Oyama's iconic motif, "Quick Turn Structure," on top of them.
On July 1st (2pm-3pm) during the exhibition, Uchiide, International Artistic Director of Shu Uemura, will be joined by lawyer and art collector Komatsu Shunya, who will host a special talk show with Oyama on the themes of "art," "global," and "NY and Japan" (reservations required).
