"I feel like I need a sense of pressure right now," said FACETASM designer Hiromichi Ochiai after finishing his show. Perhaps he's feeling a sense of pressure after winning the Mercedes-Benz Presents Designer award. At the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection show on March 20, seats extended all the way to the runway, creating a sense of oppression. The looks showcased were his signature mixed style. This time, volume was the focus. Not only were silhouettes prominent, with down jackets, oversized coats, double-layered biker vests, and flared hems, but also garish embellishments like excessive bow ties, ruffles, and pleats. There were also punk elements, like bondage pants and Converse (a collaboration model with a bandana), creating a sense of antithesis to the current lifestyle-driven fashion trend. "The trend seems to be toward light, easy-to-wear pieces, but fashion requires determination and effort," Ochiai said passionately. I could feel their determination to lead Tokyo.
