Mitsui Fudosan will open "COREDO Muromachi 2" and "COREDO Muromachi 3" on March 20th. At the same time, the existing "COREDO Muromachi" and "Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower" will be renovated, opening a total of 113 stores. Details of the redevelopment were revealed to the press on the 17th. Mitsui Fudosan Representative Director, Executive Vice President, Yoshiaki Iinuma, enthusiastically stated, "Nihonbashi was once one of the world's leading commercial districts. We want to restore the bustle of that time and promote the joy of walking around the town." Nihonbashi's projected working population exceeds 100,000, and Chuo Ward boasts the highest growth rate in both the working population and the number of households among the 23 wards, giving it great potential. While the core customer base for the two existing facilities was people in their 40s, including those employed in the neighborhood, this new opening will primarily target people in their 30s and 40s, aiming to create a new buzz. The core concepts are "street development," "new food proposals," "revitalizing the nightlife," and "a concentration of lifestyle shops."
The main tenants of "COREDO Muromachi 2" are restaurants. They offer a selection of delicious food from all over Japan and the world. Restaurants include "Hakkaisan Sennen Kojiya," a bar serving sake from Uonuma, Niigata; "Oyster Farm Hokkaido Akkeshi," which serves fresh oysters year-round; and "Hakata Motsunabe Yamaya," which serves Hakata mentaiko and motsunabe. Four restaurants, including "GRIP TAVERN," an Italian restaurant using pesticide-free vegetables on the second floor, are open until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Together with the adjacent theater, "TOHO Cinemas Nihonbashi," they offer a place for nightlife. The theater is open all night on Fridays and Saturdays. COREDO Muromachi 3 seats 1,770 and is the first in Tokyo to feature the giant TCX screen and Dolby Atmos, a three-dimensional sound system. COREDO Muromachi 3 will house Tsuruya Yoshinobu, a long-established Japanese confectionery shop founded in Kyoto in 1803, and Kayanoya, a specialty broth and seasoning store founded in 1893. New lifestyle stores include Makanai Cosmetics, offering skin-friendly cosmetics made with natural Japanese ingredients; Tabio, selling the highest quality Japanese socks; and Iori, selling Imabari towels. The first MUJI store in the Nihonbashi area will also open. On the third floor, visitors can enjoy the traditional Japanese-style hospitality experience at Hashirakutei, a facility offering geisha-style entertainment. Experience traditional Japanese games like "Tosenkyo," a game of fan throwing, and tea ceremonies with geisha (reservations required). The renovated COREDO Muromachi will see the opening of four new stores, including Kyoto's long-established pickle shop, Kyotsukemono Nishiri. The Nihonbashi Information Center will also feature an English-speaking concierge on-site to introduce sightseeing spots. Along with Hashirakutei in Muromachi 3, the new center will cater to the growing demand from foreign visitors to Japan. The food and beverage zone on the first basement floor of Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower will be renovated as COREDO Muromachi Tower Dining. New restaurants include Hokkoriya, a chicken and egg restaurant serving dishes like oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowls) and chicken ramen, and Kamatake-ryu Udon Issun Ippai, a popular restaurant in Osaka. Nakadori and Edo Sakuradori, located between COREDO Muromachi, will also host the Night Cherry Blossom Open Bar, where customers can enjoy a meal on an open terrace while admiring the cherry blossoms, and the Nihonbashi Sakura Bar, where coupons can be used to visit various restaurants.
The total number of visitors to the facility is expected to be 17 million, with sales of 11 billion yen. Mitsui Fudosan will continue to promote development in Nihonbashi. Commercial projects currently under development include the Muromachi 3-chome project in collaboration with Takashimaya.
