Jewelry brand CHAUMET is hosting a pop-up event themed "Rings that Express Feelings," titled "Bagues de Sentiments," at The Stage on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, from March 19th until the 25th. The event showcases the brand's latest ring collection while showcasing the history of rings in France, including museum pieces. The highlight is the pre-release of Liens de Chaumet's first high jewelry collection, which represents the bond between two people. The design features floating gemstones, with two lines paved with multiple small diamonds intersecting to create an ingenious geometric pattern. To commemorate the event, a special ring featuring a cross motif and a pink sapphire (priced at 252,000 yen) will be available.
In addition, three sets (407,400 yen each) featuring half diamonds from "Bee my love," a design based on Napoleon's coat of arms and featuring a bee, which is said to bring love, wealth, and happiness, will be available exclusively at this event.
Chaumet was founded in 1780 by Marie-Étienne Nitot. After working as a jeweler for the then Queen Marie-Antoinette, he began to have aristocratic clients and became the official jeweler to Napoleon I. Nitot created jewelry as gifts and keepsakes for loved ones, including jewelry for Napoleon's wife, Empress Josephine, and Empress Marie-Louise. Since then, Nito's spirit has continued to be carried on, and he has released many collections with keywords that convey messages of love, such as "Lien" = bond, "Be My Love" = bringing happiness, "Attrape Moi" = the temptation of love, "Le Grand Frisson" = love at first sight, and "Joséphine" = the power of love.
At the venue, antique pieces and design drawings that are the roots of "Lien," which are being highlighted at the event, will be on display. Melanie Sallois, curator at the Chaumet Museum, who curated this exhibition, explains, "In Europe, it has been customary since ancient Rome to give rings as a symbol of love and trust. It was around this time that motifs such as hands and hearts began to be used to express love. This time, we are introducing a valuable collection, including the "ring of hands and flaming hearts," which is the root of Lian's designs, as well as the choker that was the prototype for Lian's cross motif, which was created in the 1890s. We hope you will enjoy the evolution of Lian's design, a message of love that has continued since ancient Rome, along with her stylish evolution in the 1990s and 2000s."
