On June 23rd, Kim Jones' Louis Vuitton held its Spring/Summer 2017 men's collection show in the courtyard of the Palais Royal.
With late '80s acid house as background music, the show featured a number of looks with African animal motifs, with a touch of punkish flair. This season, the collection drew inspiration from London and Africa.
The unevenly dyed mohair knitwear featured jacquard animal motifs, referencing African animals such as the springbok and impala. There were also gorgeous pieces unique to Louis Vuitton, such as an ostrich blouson, an embossed crocodile coat, and a coat with leather cord woven into African patterns. The bizarre animal motifs seen on the monogram-print shirts and knit vests were the work of Turner Prize-winning Chapman Brothers (Jake and Dinos Chapman), marking their first collaboration with Louis Vuitton since the 2013-14 Autumn/Winter season.
Towards the end of the collection, items were paired with chunky loafers evoking punk rockers, and various variations of checks also appeared, further enhancing the London element. Other eye-catching items included box-shaped bags affixed with African animal fur and transparent box-shaped bags made of Plexiglas printed with Chapman Brothers' illustrations.
