Clematis no Oka hosts "All Living Things," an exhibition by 14 artists themed on "animals" and "life"

Jul 25, 2016

"All Living Things," an exhibition featuring animal artworks by 14 artists, will be held at the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum in Shizuoka Prefecture from July 24 to November 29. Animals have always been a companion to humans, from beloved family and friends to dangerous enemies threatening life, to sacred gods and their messengers beyond human comprehension. The exhibition features a variety of works on the themes of "animals" and "life" by 14 artists working in diverse fields, including Yusuke Asai, Koji Arai of Eatable of Many Orders, Masakatsu Takagi, Daisuke Nishijima, Machiko Miroko, and Atsuhiko Misawa. The exhibition utilizes the museum and garden spaces to showcase paintings, sculptures, photography, video, manga, poetry, and other works that express the imagination of the artists. The diverse works offer an opportunity to unravel the norms and stereotypes of human society and reexamine the diverse relationships between animals and humans today. Symposiums and talk events will also be held during the exhibition. On August 13th, starting at 6:00 PM, internationally acclaimed musician and filmmaker Masakatsu Takagi will perform a one-night-only concert. On October 30th, from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM, a symposium will be held to listen to the voices of participating artists and consider the relationship between humans and animals today through various artistic expressions. Other workshops will be available for both children and adults. These include an animal mask-making workshop for preschoolers and elementary school students, a workshop to create animal and plant geoglyphs in Mishima City using white line material, and a woodcarving workshop for adults. Additionally, the "PIOON Project 2016," a charity project to support the reconstruction of East Japan, which was launched in 2014 in conjunction with the "Leiko Ikemura PIOON" exhibition at the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum, will be held during the exhibition in cooperation with the local community.
