Flower artist Nicolai Bergmann's photo book "Nicolai Bergmann Dazaifu Tenmangu" was released on June 18th. The book features 74 works, primarily from the "Traditional Flowering" exhibition held at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka in 2014. The floral art pieces, which complement the traditional architecture of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, boasting a 1,100-year history, were created by combining Nicolai Bergmann's own Scandinavian taste with his delicate Japanese sensibilities. The book also focuses on traditional Japanese crafts, including works created in collaboration with leading traditional artisans, including Living National Treasure Arita ware master Imaizumi Imaemon XIV and doll maker Nakamura Shinkyo.
Nicolai Bergmann comments, "The beauty of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is not just its appearance set in perfectly landscaped grounds. Dazaifu is permeated with an indescribable sacred grace. It is a place where the past lives in the present, where more than a thousand years of history and tradition coexist with the footprints and prayers of the present. As a flower artist, my practice is ephemeral, beginning and ending in an extremely short space of time. I have always dreamed of holding an exhibition in a centuries-old venue, where I could escape the reality of 'time passing.'"
