TeamLab's "Crystal Tree" illuminated with 54,000 LEDs. Decorate it using your smartphone.

Nov 14, 2015

From November 13th to January 3rd, 2016, teamLab is exhibiting the "teamLab Crystal Tree," an interactive Christmas tree that can be decorated using a smartphone, at Hong Kong K11. The "teamLab Crystal Tree" is a massive 6.8-meter-tall Christmas tree made up of approximately 54,000 full-color LED chips. It uses a unique technology called "Interactive 4D Vision," which allows the LEDs to be arranged in three dimensions to project moving, three-dimensional objects in real time, creating an interactive tree that visitors can participate in decorating. Visitors can access the tree through their smartphone browser and choose their favorite ornaments from a selection of available options, including hearts, ribbons, gift boxes, and bells. By swiping at the tree, the selected ornament transforms into a giant, illuminated object, decorating it. During the day, the "teamLab Crystal Tree" transforms into a giant, rectangular object called a "Crystal Cube," which sparkles in the sunlight.
