The 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection for Talking About the Abstraction (TATA) and its women's line, Breathed Thing TATA, is based on the theme of irregularity, showcasing clothes with random tucks, switching details, and a combination of different materials and patterns. Designer Naoki Ichihara created a mouton-style coat with a polyurethane outer fabric that has been scratched to create cracks and a wool boa lining; a shirt made by bonding plain (front) and checked (back) flannel fabric and hammering from the plain side to reveal a subtle check; and coats and shirts that use photojacquard weaving to recreate patterns from 100-year-old rugs and African ethnic patterns, which can be expressed in detail with fine dots.
The brand's classic items made from vintage clothing include an MA-1 blouson made from dismantled German firefighter uniforms from the 1950s, which has been given a resin coating to make it look like leather, and a sweatshirt made from knitwear from vintage clothing, which has been intertwined with cotton inserted from the fibers and joined together without sewing, taking an extra step beyond simply using vintage clothing.
Now in its second season, the miscellaneous goods line "MATATABI" has an increased number of styles, offering a wide range of trendy clutches, including bifold clutch bags with paper motifs such as newspapers and sheet music, and clutch bags that look like paintings that can be hung on the wall. Tote bags and umbrellas have also been introduced.
