"The Great Gatsby," a masterpiece by American literary master F. Scott Fitzgerald, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, will be released in Japan on June 14th next year. The film is directed by Baz Luhrmann, who also directed "Romeo + Juliet" and "Moulin Rouge."

The art direction and costumes are handled by Baz Luhrmann's wife, Catherine Martin. She faithfully researched the period and recreated the atmosphere of late 19th-century Paris in "Moulin Rouge," for which she won an Academy Award for Best Costume Design. The women's costumes are by Prada and Miu Miu, and all the men's costumes are by Brooks Brothers.

The story is set in New York in 1922, during the booming stock market. The story unfolds from the perspective of Nick Carraway, an aspiring writer reminiscent of Fitzgerald himself. As Nick witnesses the behavior of the millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), who throws lavish parties every night, and the lifestyle of his cousin Daisy and her husband, the womanizing aristocrat Tom Buchanan, who live across the harbor, he gradually becomes fascinated by the upper class, their world of fantasy, love, and lies... A tale of unrequited love, unwavering dreams, and tragedy unfolds, one that resonates with the struggles we face as modern-day people.
