Presented at sunset amid the mystical West Lake, the CHANEL 2024/25 Métiers d'Art collection was truly a dream journey from Paris to Hangzhou. Set in Hangzhou, a historic city that is also a center of technology, the collection was inspired by the antique Coromandel screens beloved by Gabrielle Chanel. She preferred to spend her time surrounded by Coromandel folding screens, Chinese lacquer works of art that create an intimate atmosphere.

One particularly beautiful screen hangs on the wall of the study of her apartment at 31 rue Cambon in Paris, depicting ancient life on West Lake in Hangzhou, the setting for the 2024/25 Métiers d'Art collection, a place dedicated to allure, travel and dreams.

Revisiting Gabrielle Chanel's creative universe, style and sources of inspiration through the savoir-faire of le19M Maison D'Art, the collection is imbued with a unique dynamism. To accompany the show, director Wim Wenders brought his aesthetic and storytelling skills to life in a short film, featuring House ambassadors Tilda Swinton, Lea Dou and Xing Jie Lei.

Perfect for day and night, wide-shouldered coats embellished with small flowers exude a mystical atmosphere in precious tweeds, satins and suedes. Duffle coats, short jackets and oversized jackets feature Paloma frog buttons and are lined with silk satin. The silky sheen of pockets, sleeves and collars, as well as the luminous braid embroidered by Atelier Montex, emit a soft glow. A quintessential example of refined luxury and artisanal craftsmanship, even down to the most invisible details.

Straight-cut jackets belted at the waist, jackets with buttons on the sides, and tuxedo jackets lined in white satin are paired with voluminous pleated or wrap skirts, culottes, cropped trousers, and shorts. The travel theme is also reflected in bags (travel bags, vanity cases), knitwear, and jumpsuits featuring Coromandel folding screen motifs worn underneath the suits. Floral and two-tone T-shirts, bustiers, cardigans, skirts, and dresses, as well as cotton and tweed Bermuda shorts, allow for elegant layering. Envelope-shaped pockets on the fronts of bags and jackets evoke letters written while traveling.

Lesage's floral embroidery adorns the fronts of long dresses and suits with pleats and ruffles, sometimes covering the entire garment. These are reminiscent of Gabrielle Chanel's Coromandel screens, and the jade green, pink, and sky blue hues evoke the brilliance of lacquer. The faded blue jeans evoke the ripples on the surface of Lake West, while the rich colors of black and brown evoke the wood of folding screens, transporting us to a gentle, deep evening. On the feet, black patent leather thigh-high boots and pointed slip-ons are worn. The comfortable mid-calf boots, reminiscent of those worn by Gabrielle Chanel, are by Massaro, while the beautifully embroidered shoes are by Lesage. Goossens' medallions and cufflinks are inspired by flowers, fruit, and the veins of leaves that have developed over time. The silhouette of the look is completed by hats, foulards, beanies, and scarves designed by Maison Michel.

The theme of nocturnal sensuality and romance is expressed in the exquisite pleats and flounces by Lemarie and Ronion, the embroidery, inlaid lace and lacquered lace on blouses with plastrons and rough collars, and in long dresses, skirts, negligees and pyjamas. And also in the long gold lace dresses that are the emblem of Gabrielle Chanel's Allure. Fleece pieces, pillow bags and cloud-shaped pearl necklaces transport us to the soft comfort of a dream world.
