GOOD TEA LAB., a new lifestyle space for enjoying tea, opens at Shizuoka Isetan

Aug 18, 2020
Starting August 19th, we will be working with TEASONGS and Ippon Saraya as GOOD TEA LAB. at the Wellness Park on the 7th floor of Shizuoka Isetan. The location where we will be operating, the Wellness Park on the 7th floor of the main building of Shizuoka Isetan, is collaborating with Shizuoka City to promote a "city of healthy longevity," and will propose ways to achieve wellness, or "a radiant, lively state," by promoting a lifestyle in which delicious tea can be enjoyed in everyday life.

Brand Concept

Our brand concept at GOOD TEA LAB. is "GOOD TASTE, GOOD FOR HEALTH, MAKE GOOD LIFE." We believe that good tea is not only delicious, but also brings richness to your life. Through the activities of GOOD TEA LAB., we aim to recapture the leisure time modern people need by proposing a life with tea at the center of their lives. This will revitalize the tea industry itself, including tea growers and pottery artists, and revitalize a new tea culture.

Specific Initiatives at Shizuoka Isetan

You can purchase tea-related items, including information about tea, recommended tea leaves and sweets, teaware, and tea-related books. There will also be a café showcasing various possibilities for tea, where you can enjoy tea on the spot. We will also build a network with tea-growing regions and producers, and disseminate information by working together on various projects. We will also interact with artists who are key players in tea culture, contributing to the development of tea culture from the ground up.

Komono

"Komono, a Japanese Pickle Specialty Store" was born from the desire to make "pickles," one of Japan's traditional foods, more accessible, delicious, and enjoyable to all. It combines the best of traditional pickles with Western-style pickles. When you see, choose, or eat Komono's Japanese pickles, you will smile and feel happy as you enjoy them, and we will continue to offer Japanese pickles that you will want to give as gifts. Together with Komono, GOOD TEA LAB. will offer suggestions for food-centered lifestyles, such as how to pair pickles with tableware and tea.

Nukumori Kobo

Nukumori Kobo is a maker of Enshu Cotton Tsumugi, a traditional fabric from Hamamatsu, which developed into a major cotton textile production area. Aiming to create stripes that represent Japan, they produce "Japanese Stripes" that evoke the four seasons. Their original items are made in Japan, and they offer a focus on Japanese goods that blend in with modern life. They are known for their nostalgic colors, unique textures, and simple designs that can be cherished for a long time. At GOOD TEA LAB., they not only offer table scenes that add color to tea time, but also lifestyle suggestions that include the attire for enjoying tea.

iwakagu

A furniture workshop run by Iwasaki Sho, who pursued woodworking at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School and now produces furniture in his hometown of Shizuoka. The workshop offers the comfort of the warmth of wood in a way that is close to everyday life, and creates furniture that blends into interior design and lifestyle, including custom production to meet customer requests. At GOOD TEA LAB., we will work together with iwakagu to create interior designs that make tea time more enjoyable.

Event

GOOD TEA LAB. will be hosting its first exhibition, "Enjoying Cold Tea: A Midsummer Good Tea Party," for three weeks from August 19th to September 8th. This exhibition proposes a "Good Tea Party," where you can enjoy good tea to your heart's content at home instead of going out to an event. The exhibition will introduce ways to enjoy your time at home more freely, such as pairing chilled green tea with fruit tarts or using beautiful, colorful tableware. Various events are planned to be held in the same space after the exhibition period.

POP UP Café

A pop-up café will be open on Saturdays and Sundays only in the café space within Wellness Park. From August 19th, MACHAMORE, an organic matcha producer in Shimada and Kawane, Shizuoka Prefecture, will be appearing. The café offers an extensive lineup of drinks, including matcha lattes and drinks that combine matcha with seasonal fruits. You can enjoy a new taste of matcha.
