The Grand Prix Chair has been reborn with a new look thanks to the sensibilities of Fritz Hansen and White Mountaineering. An installation that recreates the "forest" associated with the chair has appeared on the first floor of the STRASBURGO Ginza store. The plant installation was created by Nicolai Bergmann Flower & Design, led by Danish flower artist Nicolai Bergmann. Experience this soothing space for a limited time until August 17th. This is your chance to see these 300 limited-edition collector's items in person. Pre-orders are now being accepted ahead of their September release.

This chair was born from Fritz Hansen's approach to creating design from materials, leading to its creation by approaching Yosuke Aizawa, CEO of the burgeoning fashion brand White Mountaineering. It opens up new horizons in furniture design from a fashion perspective.

Aizawa is also a furniture collector and has a long history of using high-quality furniture, primarily made from wood and leather. The piece he chose for his collaboration was the Grand Prix Chair, a masterpiece by Arne Jacobsen. Its association with the mountains, which are also White Mountaineering's brand motif, sparked a sense of potential. Furthermore, of the many chairs designed by Jacobsen, the Grand Prix Chair is the only one still in production that has wooden legs.

The upholstery fabric features a distinctive marquetry pattern, a motif Aizawa has used as a motif for shop interiors since the brand was founded, and is woven in jacquard by Kawashima Selkon Textiles. Using a weaving method that captures the intricate craftsmanship and intricate expression of marquetry, the color and texture are perfectly matched to the color of the wooden legs. The marquetry pattern expresses respect for Japanese craftsmanship, symbolizing White Mountaineering's commitment to materials and echoing the traditional craftsmanship of Kawashima Selkon, the weaver of the fabric. This collaboration between the two companies brings a new dimension to the Grand Prix chair, a design that Fritz Hansen has been producing for over 60 years, with craftsmanship as one of its brand values.

The result is a beautiful fusion of Danish and Japanese sensibilities, a design that complements Aizawa's style, which brings out the unique qualities of the material.
This rare chair is limited to 300 units in Asia. It will be available in-store at authorized Asian distributors from September 2020, but pre-orders are now open. If you would like to pre-order, please contact your nearest authorized dealer.
