The chocolatier beloved by Empress Elisabeth has arrived in Japan for the first time. Experience Vienna cafe culture on Ginza Chocolat Street

Apr 12, 2013

Gerstner, the chocolate brand purveyor to the Austrian royal family, will open on May 1st on Nishigoban-gai Street (commonly known as Ginza Chocolate Street) in Tokyo's Ginza district, where high-end chocolatiers from around the world line the streets.

The Gerstner Ginza Cafe is designed to immerse you in Vienna's culture, where cafes have evolved alongside music. The seating arrangement and speaker placement are designed to allow music to be enjoyed from any seat, and recordings of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra have been imported from the city, allowing you to enjoy classical music with coffee or chocolate drinks.

A Japan-only drink will also be available, an original twist on the Einspäner, coffee topped with whipped cream. Caramel, almonds, and candied violets are added, and customers can order additional toppings of their choice. A menu of sweets and light meals is also available. Founded in 1847, Gerstner was loved by the beautiful Queen Elisabeth, a symbol of the House of Habsburg, and is a royal warrant brand that has also presented its products to the Emperor and Empress. Outside of its home country, the only store there is in Japan.
