His solo exhibition, "Hoshino Katsuyuki: Towards a Purple Smoke Future," will be held at Gallery Speak For in Daikanyama from April 10th to 22nd. Hoshino Katsuyuki is an illustrator known for his work on book covers for Hideo Furukawa, Akira Ikegami, Arthur C. Clarke, and Aki Misaki. He has previously been selected for Gallery House Maya's "Book Cover Drawing Competition" and the "ASIAGRAPH CG Art Competition." In Hoshino's work, everyday scenes are transformed into sci-fi utopias reminiscent of the near future. Landscapes and gadgets with mysterious functions give the impression of something imminent. This perspective, which evokes a boyish mindset, is evoked by Hoshino's unique technique of incorporating 3DCG into his drawings. This technique not only adds realism to the composition, but also allows him to develop miniature landscapes into 2D works from any angle.
This will be Hoshino's first solo exhibition in about four years, and will bring together archive works from the past 15 years under the concept of "Masculine spatial design, cutting through the haze that pervades it and heading towards the future beyond." Approximately 40 pieces will be on display and for sale, including giclee prints, acrylic mounts, and one-of-a-kind hand-painted pieces.
The venue will also feature collaborative works with popular etching object artist Kawaguchi Kikuo. Items created specifically for the exhibition will also be on sale, including his first collection of works and T-shirts. A gallery talk is scheduled to be held on the 10th, with Hoshino, sci-fi book critic Omori Nozomu, and idol and writer Nishida Ai visiting the gallery.
