Sakiko Nomura's first instant film photography exhibition in Tokyo

Apr 2, 2015

Sakiko Nomura's instant film photography exhibition, "UTSUSHIYO: Reflected World," will be held from April 9th to May 11th at the art space "AM" in Omotesando. This is Nomura's first instant film exhibition in Tokyo. The exhibition features approximately 100 works she has taken spontaneously, without any intention of exhibiting them. Instant film can sometimes bring about unexpected transformations, and depending on the preservation process, it can produce chemical reactions. Her aesthetic sense, thoughts, and emotions as a photographer who captures moments combine to bring to light the intense essence of time. Sixteen of the works in this exhibition will also be included in the photo book "Moments," which will be published simultaneously. Sakiko Nomura will visit the gallery on the 25th for a talk show.

Sakiko Nomura began studying under photographer Nobuyoshi Araki in 1991. Since then, she has been active globally, primarily in Tokyo, with exhibitions in Europe and Asia. She is known for her male nudes. Her representative works include "Black Darkness," a collection of monochrome photographs in which subjects faintly emerge from the pitch-black darkness, and "nude/a room/flowers." She has also experimented with a variety of photographic media, such as "Night Flight," which was shot with an ultra-compact camera, and "Hotel Pegasus," which was shot with a digital camera.
