"TOKYO LAB 2017 S/S ~Beyond JAZZ, Beyond NEXT," a music event co-hosted by Canalize Inc. and Mikiki, a music guide media operated by Tower Records 00, will be held at Shibuya Club Quattro on June 21st.
Canalize's core apparel business, canalize, was launched as a project to promote "ways of making" with a focus on Japanese craftsmanship and aesthetics. In April 2017, the company opened an online concept store featuring boutiques, galleries, and bookstores, and has also hosted caravan shops and events in various locations. Following this project, the company has now partnered with LDL inc., a creative unit that produces events linked to music, food, art, beauty, and fashion, to launch a new entertainment business.
The theme of the first event is "Beyond JAZZ, Beyond NEXT." This experimental initiative aims to provide a "real-life space for interaction" centered around music, seamlessly combining clothing and food, and sharing innovative values of knowledge and play, on the vast urban space (stage) of Tokyo. Young, world-class Japanese artists will gather together to perform innovative music that transcends the field of "jazz" and even surpasses next-generation trends. Performers include T.O.C. BAND, led by Keiichi Tomita (Tomita Lab), featuring members Shun Ishiwaka, Masanao Matsushita (Yasei Collective), Ryuta Tsunoda (Mononkuru), Shinpei Ruike, Mei Inoue, and Fumitake Ezaki (WONK); RS5pb, led by trumpeter Shinpei Ruike; Takumi Moriya Les Six, led by bassist Takumi Moriya; and DJ Hiroko Otsuka.
