The 34th "Mode in France" exhibition, a joint exhibition of French brands' 2013-14 Fall/Winter collections, will be held at the Hilton Tokyo from January 28th to 30th next year. Jean-Pierre Mochot, president of the French Women's Ready-to-Wear Federation, visited Japan to give an overview of the event.

This year's exhibiting brands are 69 brands from 55 companies, nearly double the number from the previous exhibition. Twenty-five new brands are exhibiting, including a first-time men's brand. The lineup features a wide range of clothing and accessories brands, including Brigitte Bardot, Cheet London, Derhy, Gaspard Yurkievich by Gerbe, and Globe Story. In addition to France, four British companies (4 brands), six Spanish companies (7 brands), and one Italian company (1 brand) are also exhibiting. Japan is currently France's seventh largest exporter of women's clothing, with annual sales reaching 130 million euros. Due to the strong yen, exports increased significantly in the first half of 2012, up 31.9% from the previous year. Regarding France's trade, Chairman Mocho stated, "Exports to the United States and Japan are currently growing faster than exports to Europe. In 2012, the United States became France's top export destination for the first time. Japan is the most important Asian market for the international development of French fashion. In China, approximately 60% of the fashion market is men's, and the concept of "mode" has not yet taken root. We have no intention of rushing to develop this market." Furthermore, the French Women's Ready-to-Wear Federation, working with the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is aiming to develop the French fashion industry by launching a business angel program focused on the fashion sector in January of next year. The program will provide support of 100,000 to 300,000 euros to small and medium-sized enterprises.
