Tokyo Midtown's Golden Week is an experience-based event: Guinness World Record attempt, yoga, reading, and more

Apr 30, 2015

Tokyo Midtown is hosting "OPEN THE PARK," a nature-focused event that runs through May 24th during Golden Week and is fun for everyone, from children to adults. From May 2nd to 6th, the "Midpark Challenge" will be held in the lawn, atrium, and courtyard, where participants will attempt to break a Guinness World Record. In 2010, approximately 3,300 people participated over five days, setting nine Guinness World Records in four events. This year, participants will be challenged under the supervision of a Guinness World Records Limited adjudicator, and those who break world records will receive an official award on the spot. Events include "Tennis Ball Bounce Master," in which participants compete to hit a tennis ball with both sides of their racket alternately within 30 seconds; "Ball-Go-Round," "Ladle Water Shift," and "T-Shirt Hang-Up." There are plenty of events for everyone, from children to adults, families, and couples to participate in. Meanwhile, the annual "Midpark Yoga" event will be held on the lawn of Midtown Garden with the cooperation of Konami Sports Club. This popular event offers a unique experience of experiencing nature in the city while enjoying views of skyscrapers and Tokyo Tower. Sixteen instructors will be featured, including popular instructor Ken Harakuma and model Waka Nozawa. Morning yoga sessions will be held from May 2nd to 6th, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, and 24th, while evening yoga sessions will be held on April 30th, May 1st, 13th, and 20th. Additionally, from May 2nd to 6th, 9th, and 10th, the "Midpark Library" will be open, where you can enjoy reading in the early summer breeze. Popular book director Masataka Haba will present 50 keywords based on the theme of "deep breathing," including "taking a slow breath" and "familiar greenery." Three books will be selected for each session, totaling 150 books, and they will be placed in baskets along with picnic sheets. Additionally, a reading event featuring author Eiko Kadono will be held on May 9th, followed by Shinji Ishiishi on May 10th.

During the event, the "World Highball Midpark Cafe" will open in Midtown Garden, serving highballs under the theme of "WORLD WHISKY." Seven blends (starting at ¥500, tax included) using the world's top five whiskies, including "Hibiki JAPANESE HARMONY," "Maker's Mark," "Laphroaig 10 Year Old," "Canadian Club Black Label," and "Canemala," will be available. Additionally, a food menu featuring snacks such as teriyaki chicken wings (¥800, tax included), grilled smoked bacon (¥900, tax included), and mixed fries (serves 2-3, ¥1,500, tax included) will be on display in the plaza area, the entrance to the facility.

In addition, a 1/7-scale replica of the head of the Hollywood movie "GODZILLA" will be on display. It will be lit up at night, and a special performance is scheduled for the 25th.

In addition, seven new shops, including some that have been renovated, opened at Tokyo Midtown on April 3rd. One of the most notable is "Isetan Salone," a new select store format that embodies the essence of the Isetan Shinjuku store. The shop carries a wide range of items from popular domestic and international brands such as "sacai," "HYKE," "Sergio Rossi," and "FENDI."
