"Korogaru Garden" is a playground designed to foster children's creativity and will open for a limited time at Shinjuku Isetan during Golden Week.

Apr 28, 2015

From April 29th to May 3rd, Korogaru Garden will be opening in the event hall on the 6th floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku. Korogaru Garden is a park featuring media-based devices in an irregular, undulating space. It is planned and presented by the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM). A project organizer commented, "Korogaru Garden not only allows children to move their bodies freely in the undulating space, but also encourages them to notice the sound and light devices and think independently about how to enjoy them. We hope that children will use their own creativity and discover various types of play and dialogue." The garden will provide a space for media experiences and spontaneous play, creating a fun Golden Week memory for families. Korogaru Garden intentionally does not require specific usage, but encourages children to discover ways to play based on their own ideas. Rather than passively providing services, participants will use their bodies and minds to create play. Furthermore, rather than enforcing many restrictions, the garden emphasizes dialogue and supervision to support children's development.

Korogaru Garden is part of "Korogaru Park," a new playground installation devised by YCAM with the theme of children's play, media, and a new dimension in the body. This time, YCAM collaborated with the architectural unit "assistant" to create "Korogaru Garden" specially for the store.
