Blue Bottle Coffee Kyoto Kiyamachi Cafe will open on the first floor of Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto, which is scheduled to open ahead of schedule on July 21, 2020. The facility consists of a preservation and restoration of the former Rissei Elementary School, a valuable piece of modern architecture established in 1869, and a newly constructed building with a harmonious design. It also houses "The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa by HULIC," unique shops, a hall and library that serve as a hub for the local community, and is a place where culture gathers, encounters occur, and diverse activity spreads throughout the area.

Kyoto Kiyamachi Cafe offers a wide range of menu items, including carefully hand-brewed coffee and espresso drinks, as well as a limited-edition sandwich menu developed using pickles from Kyoto's long-established pickle shop, "Kyoto Tsukemono Nishiri," which also has a store in the facility, allowing customers to enjoy the flavors cultivated over many years in a casual setting, and "Blue Bottle Coffee Pale Ale" on draft. Schemata Architects handled the spatial design, utilizing the unique character of the former elementary school building, based on the concepts of "various greens associated with school" and "learning." The green of the blackboards and pencils, which were seen every day at school, are also featured. We were also inspired by the green iron pillars that were used in the Rissei Elementary School building before it was renovated, and the tree-lined path along the Takase River that runs in front of the school, and have incorporated various greenery into the cafe. The cafe's display table can also be quickly transformed into a simple brewing stand by replacing the top. This will be a place where we can hold coffee seminars and tasting demonstrations*, explaining how to brew coffee and the beans we use. Kyoto Kiyamachi Cafe is a place where you can discover, enjoy, and learn about specialty coffee. We look forward to your visit.
*Seminars and demonstrations are currently suspended.
