"The sun, architecture, music, dance—Marseille feels enveloped in a great sense of freedom. I was inspired by the everyday lifestyle of the local people and everything that encourages movement. I also wanted to incorporate wetsuits, feeling the sea and the wind," Virginie Viard said, explaining the collection.

Eye-catching press-studded diving hoods adorn the collars of Chanel-esque jackets in anise green and dresses reminiscent of the 1960s. Tracing her underwater memory lane, Virginie Viard transports her Cruise collection to a deep-sea adventure. Embroidery of tiny fish, as if in love, fishnets, shells and crustaceans punctuates dresses, suit jackets, waistcoats, faille blouses, T-shirts and compact vests.

Continuing with the oceanic imagery, sun-kissed silver sheen, ripples, and undulating lines and shapes evoke memories of summers spent by the pool. These designs are highlighted by neoprene-like jersey, tweed, and sequined jackets. Furthermore, the colors, plaid, and geometric shapes of the local building facades are incorporated into long tweed and jersey dresses and tunics, even on embroidered pockets.

In addition to hoods and press studs, the collection revisits common sweatshirt features and offers unique interpretations in fish-print chiffon. Kangaroo pockets stand out on sleeveless hooded checked dresses and sheath dresses. Running Bermuda shorts edged with embroidered braid, tweed cycling shorts, and oversized baseball jackets complete the dynamic collection. A breeze of freedom blows between white flounce skirts and floral-embroidered sheath dresses.

Swimwear is also a highlight of this collection. The collection is filled with a summery mood, featuring bloomers, culottes, and dresses with side slits, and is characterized by waffle skirts and petticoats, and bodices decorated with ivory ladder lace and patchwork of English embroidery. Platform beach sandals made of terry cloth are also available.

White or black and white pea coats with accentuated shoulders and black patent shoes pay homage to menswear. The collection also showcases a playful approach to layering.

Shirt collars, French cuffs and jackets can be layered over or under other jackets and garments, while the little black dress is reimagined as a strappy jersey bustier and swim top embroidered with tiny flowers.

"In Marseille, you suddenly find yourself in touch with your own emotions. This time, I wanted to capture that charm of the city, its breath of freshness and the energy it exudes. And I could think of no better place to present my runway show than the Unité d'Habitation," said Virginie Viard.
