Fashion designer Junko Koshino was born on August 25, 1939, in Kishiwada City, Osaka Prefecture. Her mother is Ayako Koshino; her sisters are Hiroko and Michiko Koshino; and her niece, Yuma Koshino, are all fashion designers. She enrolled at Bunka Fashion College, completing the two-year foundation course in one year and skipping grades to enter the design department. While still a student, at age 19, she became the youngest recipient of the Soen Award. Her fellow Bunka Fashion College students, including Kenzo Takada, Isao Kaneko, and Mitsuhiro Matsuda, are known as the "9th Flower Class." She graduated in 1961. In 1966, she opened the boutique "COLETTE" in Aoyama, Tokyo, and the following year, expanded her scope of activities, designing the uniforms for the Osaka Expo. Following her first appearance at the Paris Collection in 1978, she went on to hold shows around the world, including in Beijing, Vietnam, and Poland. In addition to fashion design, she also designs costumes for stage and film, sports uniforms for teams such as the Verdy Kawasaki soccer team, and interior design. Her lectures and talk shows are also popular, and on the 30th she will be holding a one-night-only gala dinner show that combines fashion and classical music.
