Noritaka Tatehana and Palace Hotel Tokyo collaborate again, with a Tanabata installation and summer glass sweets

Jun 26, 2017

The Palace Hotel Tokyo in Tokyo's Marunouchi district will host "TANABATA STAR FESTIVAL -Prayers-," the second collaboration with artist Noritaka Tatehana, from June 26th to July 7th. The collaboration, which first came about in 2016, was inspired by the shared themes of the hotel and Tatehana. This time, Tatehana has created "Prayers," a piece of bamboo art based on the theme of "Tanabata Prayers." Visitors can hang strips of paper with their wishes written on them, creating a participatory installation. Other exhibits include Tatehana's signature heelless shoes and a new large-scale painting, creating a refreshing summer atmosphere at the hotel's first-floor reception. Also available is a special glass dessert called "Prayers," a glass topped with vibrant red berry sauce and filled with peach ice cream, raspberry sorbet, and fruits such as melon, lychee, and white currant. The lobby lounge "The Palace Lounge" on the first floor of the hotel will sell glass sweets (1,600 yen), while the pastry shop "Sweets & Deli" on the first basement floor will sell mini glass sweets (650 yen). Both prices are exclusive of tax and service charges, and the ice cream and sorbet for takeaway mini glass sweets will be replaced with mousse.
