An exhibition of Taneda Yohei, art director known for his work on numerous films directed by Koki Mitani and highly acclaimed by filmmakers worldwide, will be held at the Ueno Royal Museum from October 12th.
The exhibition will display materials used in film set construction, as well as decorations, props, and models actually used in filming. It will focus on Mitani's latest work, "Kiyosu Conference," due for release on November 9th.
In addition to a large, approximately 2-meter-tall model of Kiyosu Castle used in the film and parts of the set, the museum will also feature recreations of famous scenes from "Hotel Uchoten," "The Magic Hour," and "The Great Yokai War." Also on display will be art sets from Taneda's work on foreign films by directors Quentin Tarantino, Zhang Yimou, Wei Dexian, and Keanu Reeves, including works not yet released in Japan. This will bring together all of Taneda's art.
In addition to designing the films and stage sets of director Mitani Koki, Taneda has also worked on Japanese films such as "Flower and Girls," "Villain," "Air Doll," and "Villon's Wife," as well as films by overseas directors, and received the Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize in 2010 and the Purple Ribbon Medal in 2011.
