The word "clothes" changes from childhood to adulthood. Miuccia Prada's Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2024 collection was inspired by the clothes that change with the stages of life, personalities, and the world.

Simultaneous elements represent different moments in life. Just as one experience holds multiple memories, so too do different elements coexist within a single garment. Pieces evocative of childhood clothing, such as cropped sleeves and round-toe shoes, are purposefully proportioned to represent childhood memories. Conversely, adulthood is expressed through symbols of formality and refinement, such as gloves, handbags, brooches, structured clothing and the little black dress.

The free-flowing combination of two opposing objects captures the impulsiveness and rebelliousness that characterize childhood. Pajamas meet outerwear, structure meets flowing, orthodoxy meets unorthodoxy. Clothes remind us of the past while also inspiring us to move forward.

These opposing elements and ideas are expressed through different materials and cuts. Two different fabrics are glued together to form a single piece, or completely different pieces are combined. Examples include silk and cashmere sweaters and cardigans, knitwear paired with poplin skirts, and shearling treated to look like expensive fur. A crinkled silk dress is united with a cotton jersey sheath dress, retaining the look and texture of the materials while reducing volume.

Just as this collection reimagines the character of life through the language of clothing, it could reinterpret our literal vocabulary. It could redefine the meaning of the word "femininity." Where once it was a noun reserved for a specific age and gender, it is now a universal idiom expressing rebellious strength, a free spirit, and a unique individuality. While it is seen as an inherent quality of Miu Miu, it should be seen not as a single characteristic but in a broader sense, as a fundamental element of temperament. This idea was reflected in each model that walked the runway, each representing a part of the ever-changing Miu Miu persona.

The runway was walked by Kristin Scott Thomas, Dara Allen, Ethel Kane, Guillaume Diop, Luther Ford, Angel Haze, Kin Julien, Little Simz, Jasmine Savoy Brown and Ángela Molina, who also appeared in Miu Miu's short film project, "Women's Stories."

Projected on the Palais de Jena was a video installation by Belgian-American artist Cecil B. Evans. Evans believes that art is a tool that can enrich and expand human conversations. Created independently from the collection, the clothing seemed to resonate with the memories that remain in the art. It is a universal language shaped by the moments we live in and resonates with each individual experience.
