Enjoy the taste of "Brazil" at Shinjuku Isetan, featuring gelato made with Amazon fruits

Jun 1, 2015

"Brazil Fantastico! Brazil: A Celebration of Colored Paradise," an event showcasing Brazilian-born food, fashion, and art, will be held on each floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building and Men's Building for one week from June 3rd to 9th. Following last year's event, this year's event will explore the roots of Brazilian food culture, introduce home-cooked dishes introduced from Europe, and light snacks beloved by people of all ages in the capital, São Paulo. There will also be a wide variety of sweets made with tropical fruits and other ingredients, allowing you to fully enjoy the fun of choosing what to buy. La Table Hediard, a casual French restaurant on the seventh floor of the main building, serves stroganoff, a beloved Brazilian home-cooked dish. In Brazil, stroganoff is adapted by adding a brown sauce that makes use of the acidity of semi-dried tomatoes. The restaurant will feature a dish of stroganoff paired with pressed barley and black rice risotto. Additionally, the bistro cafe "Ladies and Gentlemen" on the third floor of the building offers "Frango à Parmesan," a Brazilian take on the Italian home-style dish. It's a hearty dish of chicken cutlet, tomato sauce, and Parmesan cheese. The Kitchen Stage on the first basement floor of the main building offers a course menu of "Brazilian Hospitality Cuisine" prepared by third-generation Japanese chef Mari Hirata, who is highly trusted by the Brazilian ambassador. After a cold soup and appetizer, your main dish can be grilled beef sirloin in salt or Brazilian-style stewed fish. Both dishes come with Brazilian rice, kale salad, and carioca bean salad, and cost 2,223 yen. If you want to enjoy the flavors of Brazil at home, we recommend the many sweets made with Amazonian fruits. Be sure to check out the gelato from Premium Mario Gelateria, which uses the popular acai juice, and the chiffon cake from Tokyo Entotsu. Other items on offer include macarons from Sebastian Bouillet Fascination, made with cupuaçu, a type of cocoa that's still rare in Japan, and brioche from Hediard, which is kneaded with tapereba paste, a citrus fruit beloved in northeastern Brazil. We also recommend getting a taste of Brazil through these colorful sweets that will add a touch of color to your table.
