Adizero continues to evolve to make Japanese runners faster, releasing two new models with different midsoles

Adidas Japan Co., Ltd. will release two new models from the adizero series, designed for Japanese runners striving to beat their best times by even a single second, from June 30, 2020 onwards. These shoes are designed for elite runners who pursue even greater speed through explosive propulsion. These models are the adizero adios Pro, equipped with five-rib carbon bars called "Energy Rods," and the adizero Pro, equipped with a CARBITEX carbon plate.

Ready to set new records once again? The adizero series was developed in 2008 "to make Japanese runners faster," and has a history of numerous awards and results. Building on this foundation, the adizero adios Pro and adizero Pro are now available, featuring two completely new adidas-exclusive carbon technologies in silhouettes with different midsoles tailored to runners' needs. They set a new, next-generation standard for long-distance running footwear.

About the adizero adios Pro

Equipped with five-rib carbon bars called "Energy Rods" and lightweight, high-rebound foam "Lightstrike PRO," these shoes enhance explosive propulsion.

Developed in collaboration with a dedicated team and world-class athletes with one goal in mind: to create the fastest adidas running shoe ever. Developed based on anatomical insights from athletes, the "Energy Rods" are five carbon bars tuned to the metatarsals of the foot. This allows the center of gravity to move naturally in line with the shape of the foot, from absorbing the impact of heel strikes to a powerful forefoot push-off. At the same time, it reduces energy loss and improves running economy, allowing you to maintain speed for longer, resulting in improved explosive propulsion. This also means less physical impact on the body, allowing runners to recover more quickly after completing a marathon.

■About the Product Technology

EnergyRods
LightstrikePRO

The five-rib-shaped carbon bars, "EnergyRods," are made up of five bars made of carbon adjusted based on the metatarsal bones of the foot. They are sandwiched between two layers of "LightstrikePRO" in a unique structure and are placed at the center of the midsole.

"LightstrikePRO" is adidas' lightest and most resilient foam material, providing maximum cushioning and storing and returning more energy. By sandwiching the Energy Rods between the thick Lightstrike PRO from above and below, it provides just the right amount of sinkage and stability when landing, as well as rebound when shifting your center of gravity, contributing to explosive propulsion.

Nylon + Carbon Fiber Heel Plate
In combination with the Energy Rods, it stabilizes the ankle joint and encourages the runner to bend their foot correctly, resulting in a smooth run.

CELERMESH
A lightweight upper made from the thinnest and lightest recycled polyester mesh ever made by adidas running shoes, combined with an internal support cage. While maintaining a light weight and excellent fit, it provides flexibility, breathability, and support that is tailored to each part of the foot.

Lightweight Rubber Outsole
Made from lightweight rubber that takes the shoe's weight into consideration, it provides cushioning and grip when needed.

Midsole drop
10mm [heel 39.5mm / forefoot 29.5mm]

■Comment from Robbie Patterson, adidas Running Footwear Development Manager
"To create the best, you need to work with the best people. Enable athletes to run faster and longer than before with the same energy. That's why dozens of prototypes, thousands of kilometers, and months of testing have been put into this product. Running a marathon at an elite level is all about efficiency and pushing the limits. With every second counting and every effort essential, we needed to go beyond industry standards and challenge everything we've learned about how to make racing shoes."

■Comment from Ronex Kipruto, road race (10km) world record holder and adidas contracted athlete
"Anyone who puts these shoes on will immediately realize that they're something completely new. They're lightweight and have great balance. They don't tire easily and you feel like you can run forever. It's an absolutely amazing feeling. adidas has given us athletes something special with these shoes, so we want to repay that by continuing to break world records."

About the adizero Pro
Equipped with a CARBITEX carbon plate, a first for adidas running, for enhanced propulsion.

This is the first adidas running shoe to feature a CARBITEX carbon plate. The CARBITEX carbon plate provides dynamic flexibility when the foot strikes the ground and energy when the foot pushes off, converting less power into greater propulsion. The CARBITEX carbon plate, combined with adidas' proprietary midsole technologies, Lightstrike and Boost foam, is designed to provide natural flexion and precise positioning for the foot. It also offers unprecedented cushioning while remaining lightweight, enabling explosive movement and sustained speed. Its excellent energy efficiency provides runners with a comfortable, responsive run.

■About Product Technology

Lightstrike
Boost Foam

The lightweight midsole, "Lightstrike," supports explosive speed and provides comfort between the ground and your foot. While 40% lighter than standard EVA, it maintains the same rebound strength as "Bounce Foam (EVA)." It offers high stability and minimizes lateral movement upon landing.

Boost Foam, which combines cushioning and rebound properties, generates explosive energy. Because it is less affected by temperature environments, Boost foam maintains its resilience in all weather conditions, including wind, snow, sunlight, and rain, making it a great running shoe. It's less susceptible to degradation than EVA, so it can maintain its original performance for longer, even on long-distance runs.

Microfit Last
The Microfit last, crafted with precision down to 0.01mm, provides a snug fit that reduces energy loss caused by slippage between the shoe and your foot.

Quick DSP
Continental Rubber

Uses Continental™ Rubber outsole, which is used in cars and racing bicycles. It provides excellent grip in a variety of conditions and reduces energy loss due to slipping.

CELERMESH
Uses CELERMESH, the lightest mesh material used by Adidas. It holds your feet firmly in place, reducing energy loss caused by slippage between your shoes and your feet. It provides a comfortable fit and supports foot movement while you run fast and for long periods of time.

■Comment from Sam Handy, Vice President of Design, adidas Running
"The adizero Pro fulfills today's runner's desire to run fast. We know what it takes to run fast from 50 years of marathon victories and world records, but it's meaningless if runners don't actually have that speed on race day. By digging deep into our past for groundbreaking materials and technology and incorporating future innovations, we've created the adizero Pro, a shoe that heralds the arrival of a new era and will be the fastest shoe we've ever made."

■Comment from Shoe Creator Toshiaki Omori
"Creating a fast shoe takes countless hours, from handcrafting prototypes to perfecting them, and the adizero Pro is no exception. The adizero Pro will enable athletes to run faster than ever before. My dedication to crafting our products mirrors adidas' own dedication to continually pushing the boundaries of footwear for athletes. Together, there's no limit to what we can achieve."
