adidas Japan Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the "Japan National Football Team Special Collection" designed by NIGO® ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
This special collection was created in collaboration with NIGO®, artistic director of KENZO and designer of HUMAN MADE. The collection, designed by NIGO®, reflects adidas' desire to "embed soccer as a deeper part of culture through the Japan National Football Team," which resonates with the philosophy of diversity and inclusion promoted by the Japan Football Association. It expresses the Japan National Football Team's popularity, transcending boundaries of age, gender, and other factors. Inspired by iconic Japanese culture, such as the cherry blossom, a long-loved flower representing Japan, and the traditional Japanese confectionery "sakura mochi," a symbol of artisanal craftsmanship, the collection features a harmonious, Japanese color scheme combining the pink and green commonly used in traditional Japanese sweets. The Japan men's and women's national soccer teams will wear this collection during training the day before their respective international friendly matches next month, conveying the message of "striving to create a society in which everyone can enjoy sports equally."
The collection will be available for pre-sale on October 21st at 10:00 AM on the CONFIRMED app and at select adidas retailers, followed by a general release on October 28th at the adidas online shop, directly managed stores, the adidas app, and adidas retailers nationwide.
About the adidas "Japan National Football Team Special Collection"
This collection was developed by designer NIGO®, who has previously collaborated with adidas. Based on a minimalist and classic design, the collection features colors inspired by Japanese culture, such as cherry blossoms and the traditional Japanese sweet "sakura mochi." The harmonious pink and green color scheme complements the jersey. The back of the jersey features NIGO's iconic cherry blossom motif, featuring striking heart-shaped petals, and the "OGIN" signature is engraved on the inside of the collar. The back of the numbered jerseys also features the number "22," a reference to the year of the FIFA World Cup™, 2022, making this a commemorative collection embodied in NIGO's attention to detail. In addition to performance apparel like jerseys and shorts, the collection also includes everyday items like t-shirts, tracksuit tops, and pants.
