Luke Meier's OAMC presented his Spring/Summer 2018 collection on June 24th at Pavillon Cambon, an event space in Paris's Opéra district. While avoiding directly linking fashion to politics, the collection incorporated a 1960s vibe and expressed a deep reflection on the times we live in through its clothing. An embroidered blouson featuring Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" was finished off with organza reminiscent of street-corner flyers bearing messages. A sweatshirt featuring the Chicago Seven, a group known for their aggressive political activities, featured embroidered flowers symbolizing peace and flower children. Each piece served as a message of protest against contemporary politics.
An object resembling a large megaphone speaker placed on the runway was created to evoke the image of university students shouting in Berkeley, and reggae was played in the background to symbolize a desire for peace.
While the focus tends to be on the message and concept, there were many noteworthy aspects to the creations as well, with delicate handwork subtly on display, such as a frock coat with motifs made from threads sewn together using colored yarn, and patchwork pants with intricate cuts. The collection as a whole gave an impression of being orthodox and sporty, but also conveyed a strong stance of showcasing new values in both its message and its handwork.
