Responsibility in action. Prada taps into the circularity and sustainability themes of its groundbreaking Re-Nylon collection, starring renowned actor and activist Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch, photographed by Willy Vanderperre. The campaign celebrates the Prada Group's ongoing partnership with UNESCO to protect the oceans.
Introduced in 2019, Prada Re-Nylon, a collection of men's and women's accessories and ready-to-wear, symbolizes the duality fundamental to Prada's identity: innovative spirit and responsible action. By placing sustainability at the core of its fashion collections, Prada Re-Nylon has driven change throughout the brand. Today, all virgin nylon produced by Prada has been transitioned to regenerated nylon, demonstrating a revolutionary commitment to sustainability by a major luxury brand.
Nylon represents the revolutionary principle at the heart of Prada's design philosophy: revisiting a utilitarian material, repurposing it in a new context, and elevating it through design. Nylon had been a signature material for the brand since the late 1970s, but Miuccia Prada's incorporation of nylon into Prada pieces redefined the then-current understanding of "luxury." Prada's reinvention established nylon as a recognized part of luxury today. For 40 years, Prada has challenged conventions with its use of nylon in accessories and clothing, a vital link to the thought processes that remain at the heart of its DNA.

In the 21st century, the idea of luxury has shifted again to incorporate ideological and environmental considerations—"Thinking Luxury." Prada Re-Nylon has evolved this iconic fabric into ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon yarn that can be recycled multiple times without compromising the material's quality. Prada Re-Nylon is a regenerated nylon made by reusing and purifying plastic waste collected from the ocean, including fishing nets, and landfills, and is produced in a circular manner through a complex process of depolymerization and repolymerization.
This process served as the inspiration for the Prada Re-Nylon 2024 collection advertising campaign, featuring timeless and eternal pieces worn by Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch, and the ocean serves as the frame for the new collection, an environment that deserves active protection.
Starting in July 2023, 1% of sales revenues from the Prada Re-Nylon collection will be donated to support SEA BEYOND, an educational program launched in 2019 by the Prada Group and UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). In line with the Group's commitment to social issues and values of education and culture, SEA BEYOND has raised global awareness of the principles of sustainability and ocean literacy, providing educational opportunities for young people around the world. Protecting our oceans requires understanding them—and ultimately learning, thinking, and acting.
