What are flower essences that help restore a sense of balance? --Vol.2 [Flower Essences]

Jan 2, 2017
New Year's is a time to take a break and relax from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The start of the year is a time to reflect on your body and mind. If you're feeling unwell for some reason, why not try a more natural approach this year with the help of plants? We asked lifestyle coordinator Yoko Yamafuji to explain flower essences, which heal the mind and body by incorporating the energy of nature into the body.

■What are flower essences?

Flower essences are a natural therapy developed by British physician Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s. While some trees bask in the sun, others grow secluded in the shade. Dr. Bach focused on the unique characteristics of plants that grow naturally in nature and devised a way to incorporate their energy vibrations into the human body. Although flower essences are sometimes confused with essential oils, which are extracted using methods such as steam distillation to extract the scents and essences of plants, or homeopathy, a homeopathic treatment developed in Germany, flower essences are a completely different natural therapy. They are made using two methods: the sun method and the boiling method. The sun method involves floating plants in water and exposing them to sunlight, which transfers the plant's energy (chi/vibrations) into the water. This mother tincture is then added to brandy and preserved to become a flower essence. Flower remedies are popular around the world, including the "Bach Flower Remedies" developed by Dr. Bach, which are based on 38 plants, and the "Bush Flower Essences" that originated in Australia and contain 69 types. The plants used in flower remedies vary depending on the country and region. Flower essences are unique in that they gently restore a sense of balance that we all possess and guide us in a positive direction by incorporating the positive vibrations of plants, which are necessary to address the inherent negative thinking that makes users prone to them, as well as to improve the challenges they face at work and in their personal lives.

Next time, we will give a lecture on how to use flower essences in detail. We'd like to introduce "Flower essences that support your mind and body as you work towards your new year's vision."
