Just before the opening! We asked the buyer in charge how to navigate Salon du Chocolat! A thorough report on the eat-in experience that can only be enjoyed at the venue

Jan 27, 2017
To fully enjoy the Salon du Chocolat, which will be held at the Tokyo International Forum from February 2nd, be sure to check out the lineup of takeout menus, which are also known as the hidden main event. We asked Salon du Chocolat Master and buyer Akiyama Yuji to give us a lecture on how to navigate the venue and what to look out for. We hope you will read this as a preparation text for the Salon du Chocolat.

■Enjoy freshly baked food! Three Recommended Hidden Popular Takeout Items

JEAN-PAUL HEVIN's Coussin d'Amour (2 varieties / 864 yen each, tax included)
chocolat

"This is our top pick, and it's a must-try - it's a dream combination of Jean-Paul Hevin's crepes and Christine FERBER's jam. The harmony of flavors created by the chocolate and jam is amazing!"

Chocolatier Palet de CHOCOLATIER PALET D'OR soft serve ice cream (551 yen including tax)
chocolat

"It looks like a white soft serve ice cream, but it's a mysterious soft serve ice cream that has a cacao flavor when you eat it. This soft serve ice cream is made using a special cacao extraction method, and the flavor changes as you eat it, which is fun. Inside the cone is a flavor exclusive to Salon du Chocolat, so look forward to that too!"

CRIOLLO by Antoine Santos Fondant Chocolat Special (501 yen including tax)
chocolat

"This fondant au chocolat is made by Antoine Santos, a genius when it comes to making sweets. He uses Jamaican cocoa for the dough and ganache, and uses a unique emulsification method to create a chocolate that is smooth and melts in your mouth to perfection. It is a taste that will not disappoint you.

■ Buyer's guide to "Salon du Chocolat"

"If it's your first time visiting Salon du Chocolat, try buying and eating something that catches your eye in the eat-in area. I hope you'll intuitively find a brand that catches your eye," says buyer Akiyama. As expected, the dine-in area is an essential part of enjoying the true essence of Salon du Chocolat, an "experiential" event. When asked about tips for visiting the Salon du Chocolat, she commented, "It's important to check out the chocolates you're interested in beforehand. Some customers end up regretting buying too much after being swept up in the atmosphere of the venue (laughs)." She also mentioned that the ways in which visitors enjoy the event are becoming more diverse, such as sharing the chocolates they purchased with friends, taking photos with the chefs, and getting autographs. Finally, when asked for a final comment, she replied, "We hope you'll come back next year, so please set a budget and come enjoy the world of chocolate. That's why it's important to do some research beforehand about the items and brands you want to check out!"
