Vivienne Westwood will release a capsule collection called "World's End" in collaboration with OPENING CEREMONY on February 9th. "World's End" refers to Vivienne Westwood's original boutique, which opened in London in 1971. The "World's End Collection," which incorporates Vivienne Westwood's rebellious and risk-taking slogans, which have been used to convey political messages through fashion, has previously been available exclusively at the London boutique.
For this collaboration, the two brands share the same collection values. The result is a unisex "urban guerrilla" look that faithfully recreates archive pieces. One example is the "Savage Jumper" from the '82 Spring/Summer collection, printed with a geometric pattern inspired by Native American saddlebags. The "Clint Eastwood Bomber Jacket," introduced in the '83-'84 Autumn/Winter collection, has been reimagined as a military flight jacket.
Other pieces from the '81 Pirates collection include the "Achilles Shorts," featuring washed denim with a 17th-century camo print, and the "Sex Twisted T-shirt," featuring a chaos print. From the Seditionaries collection, the "Anarchy Shirt" is revisited, along with a remake of the "Tang Trainer," a sneaker that first appeared on the catwalk. The collection will also feature vests and T-shirts with original archive-based graphics, such as "face of war & peace" and "+5 degrees & D.I.Y." The collection will be available exclusively at Vivienne Westwood World's End and Opening Ceremony's New York and Los Angeles stores. Regarding the collaboration, Vivienne Westwood commented, "For us, punk originally emerged as the ultimate form or culmination of the hippie look, 1950s teddy boy fashion, and pin-up magazines, and later evolved into rockers and Hell's Angels. When we started punk, we incorporated all of that into the urban guerrilla, or 'resistance' look. It was a creation born through our boutique."
Humberto Leon, creative director of Opening Ceremony, said, "Vivienne Westwood's influence is not limited to fashion; like Opening Ceremony, it extends to all cultures, from music, film, and art to politics, human rights, and environmental issues. We have selected archive pieces from World's End in support of her brand and her rebellious spirit."
